Increase in Burglaries |
||
Good Evening Residents, In the lead up to Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas celebrations, Northamptonshire Police is issuing crime prevention advice to local residents. At this time of year, there can be an increase in burglaries, as offenders take advantage of the darker nights and residents being out and about enjoying seasonal events and festivities. To help reduce the risk of burglary and other crime, officers are sharing crime prevention advice and urging residents to be mindful of their home security and personal safety while out and about. Neighbourhood Inspector for the Northampton area, Nicola Davis-Lyons, said: “With the darker nights upon us, Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas just around the corner, and Christmas only a couple of months away, offenders know residents may have more valuables in their homes, as well as being more likely to be out and about at various celebrations, leaving homes unoccupied. “We also know that at this time of year, there can be an increase in gold thefts and burglaries, when families of South Asian heritage are more likely to wear and display valuable gold for cultural reasons. “And of course, it is not just those who celebrate Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas that we would urge to be vigilant. With people already starting to plan for Christmas, it’s a good time for us all to be mindful of the potential risks and ensure home security is at the forefront of our minds. “You can help protect your home and keep yourself and your valuables safe by following the crime prevention tips below. “Anyone who has any questions or concerns, or would like further crime prevention advice, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. “You can contact the Northampton neighbourhood team at neighbourhoodteamnorthampton@northants.police.uk or if you live in a different part of the county, please use the online contact form at www.northants.police.uk/yourarea - just put in postcode to find your local team.
